Description

My first ever entry for an OCT, with my gemsona character Benitoite! I made her when I was listening to the band Starset because I wanted a character that was space themed, and thought a gem based off of that ould be neat. And Benitoite is a very pretty deep blue gem that can look like it has galaxies or clouds inside of it. Plus it can twin into Star of David-like shapes- which is even cooler.
And without further ado, here's the rest of her information that I figured I would be too lengthy with to put on the sheet:

Name: Benitoite
Alignment: Neutral Good
Personality: Benitoite is a courteous gem that is loyal to her beliefs, as well as to her allies and friends. She will put aside things important to her if it means that it will forward the cause she is a part of, or if it will make someone she cares about happy.
She has a great love of action and adventure, growing restless when she's forced to wait in a place with no action. She also has a caring, nurturing side that comes out around her allies- leading her to be very protective of them and willing to sacrifice herself for them if needed.
Background: As a rare gem, Benitoites in general were treated as higher class, but in a way reduced to a state similar to Pearls to protect them. They are custom made to be guards or escorts for higher up gems, but, despite their prowess in battle, are mostly meant to sit there and look pretty.

Benitoite herself was created to guard Blue Diamond's court, but she was ordered to let any nearby Rubies, Quartzes, and Jaspers to take care of the problems first- as most Benitoites never got to participate in battles. Over time, this led to Benitoite growing weary of her post and duty. But she was not able to to anything about it. So she was forced to resign to stick to her boring role and life.

Days, months, and years passed. A verdant planet was discovered, and later on rumors of a rebel group of gems spread around. Benitoite's curiosity was piqued, but, again, she was forced to stay within Blue Diamond's court. Until a day came where Blue Diamond had her court in the Sky Arena, requesting a Sapphire to use her future vision to defeat the rebels. As by plan, those events unfolded, but once again, Benitoite was to follow orders and stay back unless she was absolutely needed. As a renegade Pearl entered the stage with a Rose Quartz, Benitoite realized she felt a longing to join them- she tried to dispel these thoughts in fear of being tried for treason. But she could not avoid them- she was awestruck by the two and how they dealt with their enemies.

And then something went wrong- the events were altered and the Sapphire fused with one of her Ruby guards. The rebels escaped, and Blue Diamond was angry. The Sapphire was ordered to be shattered, but she and the Ruby escaped into the world below. Benitoite wished dearly she could follow after them, but she continued to follow orders and stay at her post.

It wasn't long until the rebellion started to grow. As time passed, Benitoite built up the courage to join them. And the day finally came where she defected- where she was given guard duty where she would not be seen fleeing into the night. After a long search, she ran into one of the rebellion- a Crystal Gem. She quickly gave herself up to the gem- showing she meant no harm. She was treated with suspicion at first- but she was eventually accepted into their ranks and began to earn their trust. She even began to make friends, and she proved to be a great warrior- finally having a place to show her true potential.

Abilities:
Aside from powers typically known to most- if not all- gems, Benitoite is capable of four skills unique to her gem type. They are:
* Danger Precognition - Benitoite has the ability to precognate danger by looking at the faces of individuals. If they are in potential danger that could do them serious harm- their face will have a faint white glow to them. The danger can be predicted from within 8 hours away, but the time away from the danger is not guaranteed. Some may appear to Benitoite to have a white glow on their face and be minutes away from danger, rather than being guaranteed it will be 8 hours until they are harmed.
This ability can be seen on multiple individuals, but only Benitoite is able to see the glow. It comes down to Benitoite to decide if it's worth acting upon the danger.
* Plasma Manipulation - Benitoite is able to generate or control various forms of plasma, such as ionized gas, lightning, fire, or neon; within a 2.5 yard radius of her location. She can form it into various shapes and states- such as create temporary barriers or shields or generate electric or fire as a weapon. Excessive use of this ability can be an energy drain, so Benitoite avoids abusing this ability and saves it for when she can use it strategically. She also has to charge up her attacks using this skill.
* Sword Beams - Technically an ability that is an extension of her Plasma Manipulation, Benitoite is able to fire beams of plasma from her weapon in either a concentrated beam from the tip of her weapon, or from the weapon itself with her movements of the weapon she is wielding. This is not limited to her own personal weapon, but can be used with any weapon she may be holding.
* Air Walking - Benitoite is able to generate small, 'solid' plasma platforms underneath her feet, allowing her to walk in the air without falling, or even walk up in the air as if she was climbing stairs.
